This is James Bond's new gun

According to today's excerpt in The Times, James Bond will be using a Walther PPS in Jeffery Deaver's Carte Blanche.

The Walther "Police Pistol Slim" is a variant on the P99 (the gun Bond has been carrying in the last several movies) designed to be easily concealed with a 1.04 inch profile. That makes it smaller and lighter than both the PPK and P99. It comes in both 9mm and S&W 40.

Sounds like a perfect choice. Deaver is keeping in the Walther tradition, but going with a gun that makes sense for James Bond's line of work (the P99 was somewhat ridiculous in this regard).

Thanks to Jim, Captain Tightpants, and Jeff007 of the CBn forums.

  1. The P99 was ridiculous in what regard? It's not exactly a huge pistol, though the PPS is undoubtedly more easily concealed.

  2. I always thought it was much too big to effectively conceal.

  3. It's more a question of the butt, not the entire gun. Although the P99 is big enough to make it difficult to conceal. Yep, pretty ridiculous if you do not happen to be on the somewhat massive side.

  5. The PPS is definitely not a "ladies" gun -- Walther designed it very well and it fits the hand flawlessly. It is accurate and reliable. Besides, I doubt an enemy after getting hit with 8 rounds of 9mm will say "Is that all? That's a ladies gun."

  6. seems like people will cry 'ladies gun!' if it's not some huge x frame .500 revolver or desert eagle

  7. The Walther PPS is also available in .40 S&W, with a total 7 round capacity when using the standard size magazine.

  10. I feel that Fleming's Bond, if put into today's world, would most likely being using the Beretta 3032 Tomcat or the Ruger LC9 for every day use.

    2. I'm the guy that posted on December 22nd 2011. At the time I was deployed to Afghanistan (US Army) . I'm not a huge guy, but my hands are bigger than everyone in the platoon I was with (I'm infantry by-the-way), and undercover I'd use either the Beretta 3032 Tomcat or Ruger LC9. In parts if the world where carrying a firearm is not an option, a foreign agent carrying pistol that's huge seems odd...as to where if you are carrying something smaller you are most likely able to justify doing so my saying it is for personal defense (kinda like undercover cops during a drug deal). In Europe the mentality is more "anything will kill, so long as you put the bullets in the right places." As to where in the us it more of "the bigger the round or louder the nosie, the noise the more dead you have."

  14. I happen to be a police officer working with an agency in Chicago...the Walther PPS .40 is what I always carry as my off duty firearm. It's a great gun to carry and would be a wise choice for any armed professional. Any questions? I TOMCAT...really, are you kidding?
