New Kev Walker images from STRIKE LIGHTNING

The official Young Bond website has posted new Kev Walker character images from Strike Lightning, Steve Cole's third Young Bond novel due out next week. The descriptions are a little spoilerish, so don't read if you want to stay pure.

I'm currently half-way through the book and I'm thrilled to report this is Steve's best yet. In fact, this one could rival some of Charlie Higson's work.

Strike Lightning will be released in the UK as a limited hardcover and in paperback on September 1st. It can be pre-ordered now Amazon.co.uk.

Kev Walker shows us Young Bond in SHOOT TO KILL

This new Kev Walker illustration of Young Bond from Shoot To Kill has been posted to the official Young Bond website and Facebook page. It's the first character image from the book and the first new Kev Walker Young Bond illustration since 2009. Young Bond is looking very James Bond, isn't he?

In Shoot To Kill, Steve Cole picks up where Charlie Higson left off and sends Young Bond into action in Hollywood, CA. The book is set for release in the UK on November 6, 2014.

Pre-order Shoot To Kill from Amazon.co.uk.

MI6 Confidential looks at the art of Young Bond

Editor Hugh Maddocks alerts me that the lastest issue of his James Bond fanzine, MI6 Confidential, features a look back at Kev Walker's artwork for the Young Bond series, including an unused cover for Blood Fever that even I've never seen (third from the left). Very nice!

This issue also has a terrific profile of the life and art of Richard Chopping with some nice images of his From Russia With Love cover. And a very fine article about Bond strip artist Yaroslav Horak. All in all, a must get for fans of the literary 007.

You can purchase this issue of MI6 Confidential (#13) at mi6confidential.com.

Young Bond in Mexico

Charlie Higson's fourth Young Bond novel, Hurricane Gold, is released today in the U.S. by Disney Hyperion. The book is a hardcover with dust jacket artwork by Kev Walker (who also illustrated the SilverFin Graphic Novel).

Hurricane Gold -- which was first released in the UK in 2007 -- finds young James battling gangsters in the jungles of Mexico. Says author Charlie Higson, “I’ve always loved Mexico and wanted to write something about Mexico. I love the food and the music and growing up on all those cheesy westerns and 1930s thrillers that are set there. So it was just quite fun for me. ... I made sure it’s fairly non-stop action from the beginning.”

Read the full Charlie Higson/Hurricane Gold interview HERE.

The final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, will be released in the U.S. in May 2010.
