HURRICANE ROOM cover reveal

The U.S. cover art for Kim Sherwood's final Double O novel, Hurricane Room, has been revealed on Kim's Instagram. I love it. I certainly love the tagline: "James Bond is Alive." Thank you!

James Bond returns in the final installment of Kim Sherwood’s thrilling Double O Trilogy, and he must team up with the rest of the Double O Section to stop a threat from inside the agency itself.

If this cover seems strangely familiar, know that it is a take-off on unused poster art for On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

You can pre-order Hurricane Room at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. Release date is May 21, 2026.

Cover art for the paperback edition of Charlie Higson's On His Majesty's Secret Service has been revealed, and it's FANTASTIC! (imho) IFP has also posted an interview with the designer Mark Ecob of Mecob.

BOND SAVE THE KING

It's the 4th of May, two days before the coronation of King Charles III and the world's favourite spy has his work cut out for him.

Bond is sent at the last minute to thwart an attempt to disrupt the coronation by the deadly megalomaniac Æthelstan of Wessex, who is on a mission of his own to rule the United Kingdom and rewrite history.

Can Bond thwart his plans by infiltrating Æthelstan’s private army and ending his reign of terror before it begins?

In support of the National Literacy Trust.

THE NEW PAPERBACK EDITION FEATURES REVISED TEXT AND EXCLUSIVE BONUS CONTENT.

The On His Majesty's Secret Service paperback will be released on June 6, 2024, and can be pre-ordered from IFP or Amazon.co.uk.

Seeing a proper cover like this just makes me want MORE! More traditional Bond adventures like this. More Charlie Higson! Let him take us into the next era of The Book Bond.

SAM PEFFER - From photo to finished cover

Here's an interesting video from one of my favorite YouTubers, Jules Burt. While this video (the first of three parts) covers many different "Peff" Pan covers, it begins with a look at his Bond work. Some images here I've never seen. Enjoy.

HARPER COLLINS reveals 2023 cover art

American publisher Harper Collins has revealed some cover art for their Ian Fleming reprints next year. Pretty uninspired. Not much more to say than that.

Presumably these are not the covers for the new IFP published Bond novels in the UK that will mark the 70th Anniversary next year. Those should be something special.

Thanks to Brisco at Double O Section for the alert.

WITH A MIND TO KILL U.S. cover looks familiar

Cover art for the U.S. hardcover edition of Anthony Horowitz's With A Mind To Kill has appeared on Amazon and publisher Harper Collins' website...and it looks familiar!

As you can see, the artwork is the same as the UK hardcover from Jonathan Cape. The only difference I can spot is the U.S. edition touts Horowitz as the "New York Times Bestselling Author" while the UK edition reads "The Number One Bestseller".

If this holds, it will be a little disappointing that we don't get alternative U.S. cover art as that's part of the fun of collecting multiple editions. But it is nice cover art. And this isn't a first. From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, For Your Eyes OnlyThe Spy Who Loved Me, Colonel Sun, and SilverFin shared the same cover art on their UK and U.S. editions.

The U.S. edition of With A Mind To Kill will be released on May 24, 2022 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com.

James Bond is back WITH A MIND TO KILL

James Bond LIVES! Today Ian Fleming Publications and Jonathan Cape/Vintage reveal the title and cover art for Anthony Horowitz's third James Bond adventure. With A Mind To Kill is due for release on May 26, 2022. I, for one, can't wait to shake off the last Bond film by diving back into the books where 007 never dies (for real).

It is M’s funeral. One man is missing from the graveside: the traitor who pulled the trigger and who is now in custody, accused of M’s murder – James Bond.

Behind the Iron Curtain, a group of former Smersh agents want to use the British spy in an operation that will change the balance of world power. Bond is smuggled into the lion’s den – but whose orders is he following, and will he obey them when the moment of truth arrives?

In a mission where treachery is all around and one false move means death, Bond must grapple with the darkest questions about himself. But not even he knows what has happened to the man he used to be.

Greek HOROWITZ

Here are Greek editions of Anthony Horowitz's two Bond novels, Trigger Mortis and Forever and a Day, that use unique cover art. While I've seen plenty of variations of Trigger Mortis, most international editions of Forever and a Day stuck with the UK art. This one is a variation on that art to be sure, but it does lose the idea of the boat as bullet. Still, it's nice to see something different.

Will we get the announcement of a third Anthony Horowitz Bond novel this year? Or maybe a new author? We are well over do for something.

FOR SPECIAL SERVICES reprint in November

My old friends at CommanderBond.net have scored a sweet scoop. It appears Orion will release a new reprint of John Gardner's second James Bond novel For Special Services in November, and CBn offered a first look at the cover art on their Twitter.

DR. NO in 1961

I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd pluck down a paperback from my shelf to share. This is a 4th printing 1961 UK paperback of Ian Fleming's Dr. No. It's fun to think of this book in stores just a year before the movie version was released. After that, James Bond could no longer look like that chap with the gun below.

The second coming

For some reason I've been thinking a lot lately about For Special Services, John Gardner's 1982 followup to his debut Bond novel License Renewed. The second in a series can be tricky. The Bond movies have a way of fumbling the second outings of a new actor (The Man With The Golden Gun, Licence To Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, Quantum of Solace). I even think Anthony Horowitz's Forever and a Day is a rare #2 book fumble.

But For Special Services got it right. It gave us the new Bond in a fresh setting (America) and built on all the strengths of the first book. Even going with a white cover was somehow perfect. And I still think it has one of the most Bondian titles of all the Gardner books.

So here's remembering For Special Services, the second coming of Gardner's Bond.

You can see a nice newspaper ad for For Special Services HERE.

When OUTER SPACE belonged to 007

On this 50th Anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing, here's a look back at James Bond's own space adventure. Moonraker, the film and novelization by Christopher Wood, was released 10 years after Apollo in the summer of 1979. Below is the U.S. paperback edition from Jove.

FOREVER AND A DAY UK paperback cover art

The UK paperback cover art for Anthony Horowitz's Forever and a Day has been revealed on Amazon.co.uk. Pretty much looks like the hardcover art, but there are differences, including a "Number One Bestseller" tag. The book will be released on April 4th, 2019 by Vintage.

Forever and a Day was released in hardcover in the UK on May 31, 2018. The U.S. hardcover will be released on November 6, 2018.

FOREVER AND A DAY U.S. audio book cover

Now that we've confirmed the U.S. cover art for Anthony Horowitz's Forever and a Day, here's the audiobook. As usual, some are grossing about how this is vastly inferior to the UK art, but I really like it. I think it's the best U.S. cover we've had in some time.

You can pre-order the U.S. edition of Forever and a Day at Amazon.com. Release date is November 6, 2018. But if you can't wait, know the UK edition is out on Thursday.
