WITH A MIND TO KILL released in the U.S. today

Anthony Horowitz's With A Mind To Kill is released today in the U.S. and Canada by Harper Collins.

This time the publisher has used the UK cover art instead of creating their own unique design as they did for the last two Horowitz books. While a bit disappointing to me as a collector, it's not unprecedented and it's a great cover. (Call me crazy, but I kinda miss the days of the uniform series covers like on Gardner and Benson books.)

The real advantage here is you can get the book a few days before the UK edition, which is set for release from Jonathan Cape on Thursday. (I'll be holding back my review until then.)

Purchase the U.S. edition of With A Mind To Kill on Amazon.com. A Large Print edition is also available from HarperLuxe.

Young Bond GALAXY large print editions

Below are all five UK Large Print editions of Charlie Higson's Young Bond novels. These were released by Galaxy Plus and make a nice set. I especially like Hurricane Gold as the release UK paperback used a highly reflective gold cover that obscured the artwork. But here the croc can be seen clearly! Also notice SilverFin uses the UK proof cover art and By Royal Command the hardcover art.

Pre-order BOYD'S BOND in Large Print and for Kindle

William Boyd's upcoming Untitled James Bond novel is now available for pre-order in the U.S. as a Large Print paperback and Kindle eBook. A listing for the hardcover edition appeared on Amazon last week. The book will be released in the U.S. on October 8, 2013.

Continuing our starvation diet in regards to info on the new Bond, the Kindle version only says this under the Book Description:

Unti Bond Novel by William Boyd has descriptive copy which is not yet available from the Publisher.

No word from IFP on when we might get a title. The title and cover art of the last Bond novel, Carte Blanche by Jeffery Deaver, was revealed in January of the release year. Of course, that book was a Summer release and Boyd's Bond is scheduled for Fall.

John Gardner's James Bond LARGE PRINT editions

Here's a unique collection of John Gardner James Bond novels with covers that may not be familiar to most. That's because these are Large Print editions; books published with enlarged typeface for readers who have difficulty with standard type sizes. Until very recently, publishers of Large Print editions created their own original cover art, which as you can see below results in some very interesting designs (I'm especially fond of Role of Honor and Nobody Lives Forever).

The Gardner books appeared in multiple Large Print editions from multiple publishers in the U.S. and UK, but I've selected out a sample assortment below. The only Gardner book that wasn't published in Large Print (as far as I know) was Licence To Kill.

CARTE BLANCHE Large Print Edition released

A large print edition of Jeffery Deaver's new James Bond novel Carte Blanche is released today by Thorndike Press. The enlarged print make this edition come in at a whopping 699 pages.

What I like about collecting large print editions is they sometimes sport wildly different cover art. Many of the John Gardner books were released in large print with very interesting cover designs (check out this edition of Nobody Lives Forever).

However, it appears from the photo on the Thorndike Press website that Carte Blanche uses the U.S. cover art with only a blurb tagging it as a "Large Print Edition." The large print edition of Devil May Care also used the standard U.S. art, so maybe the days of variant large print covers are over. *Sigh.*

The large print edition of Carte Blanche by Jeffery Deaver can be purchased at Amazon.com.

Galaxy Plus releases Large Print Hurricane Gold

Specialty publisher Galaxy Plus has released a Large Print edition of Charlie Higson’s fourth Young Bond novel, Hurricane Gold. The book is an oversized trade paperback with cover art similar to the UK paperback, but with no golden effect, making the book orange in color, and Charlie’s name is in red instead of white

The Galaxy Plus Large Print Hurricane Gold contains the complete text (excluding the By Royal Command extract) with enlarged type for those who have difficulty with standard font sizes.

Galaxy has now released all the Young Bond novels in Large Print editions.

Galaxy Plus is one of the most prolific publishers of large print books and unabridged audiobooks in the world with over 3000 titles encompassing a wide range of best-selling authors. Galaxy titles can be ordered at BBC Audiobooks.

DEVIL MAY CARE large print paperback

We have a U.S. hardcover, an audiobook, and now Amazon.com is listing a Large Print paperback edition of Sebastian Faulks centenary James Bond novel, Devil May Care.

Large Print editions are created for those who have trouble reading standard book typeset. The larger print will grow Devil May Care from 304 to 480 pages. The publisher will be Random House Large Print, so it’s likely the cover art will be the same as the hardcover, although many Large Print editions sometime use variant cover art.

The last Bond novel to get the large print treatment was Charlie Higson’s SilverFin.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH large print edition released

Raymond Benson’s novelization of The World Is Not Enough, originally published in 1999, has just been released in a large print edition by Ulverscroft Large Print and can be purchased at Amazon.co.uk.

What makes this particular book interesting (and collectible) is that it uses cover art radically different from what appeared on the original 1999 U.S. and UK releases. While many large print editions opt for variant covers, novelisations typically stick with the movie poster art. But not this time.

This is the second large print edition of a Benson Bond film novelisation, the first being Die Another Day. Benson’s original Bond books High Time To Kill, DoubleShot, and Never Dream of Dying have also been published in large print. There were plans for a large print edition of The Man With The Red Tattoo, but the book has yet to materialize.

Large print editions can be highly collectible as they are typically published in small quantities with most going to libraries. All the Fleming novels and most of the James Bond novels by John Gardner have appeared in large print editions.
