This major nugget of news appeared in The Independent's report on the selection of William Boyd to write the next James Bond novel. At the end of the article it says:
It is the latest part of an ambitious programme for 007 from Fleming’s estate, which hopes to encourage more heavy-hitting authors to try their hand at writing Bond.
It is currently searching for an author to write more Young Bond books after the initial five-strong series, written by The Fast Show’s Charlie Higson, proved hugely successful.
Matt Weston over at the CBn forums asked Charlie Higson via Twitter if this was true. Charlie responded:
So who will be the new Young Bond author? Let the speculation begin.

Crossing fingers for a late teenaged Bond who enters the Royal Navy.
ReplyDeletethink maybe should have a small section of his life in the school he was about to go to at the end of "By Royal Command" then that part about the navy
DeleteI am glad and sad at the same time. Love more books though.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. I loved those books, but I was more of a Charlie Higson fan than a Young Bond fan. He made a dubious concept work exceedingly well. Now we're back to Square One: a dubious concept. Is there another writer who can pull it off?
ReplyDeleteI hope Higson has a slot on the revolving author carousel of adult Bond! Maybe he can find time for the next period one after Boyd, presumably following the next one on Deaver's timeline in several years if they keep alternating...
I agree. Well said, Tanner.
DeleteSo, Higson won't be writing the next series of Young Bond books. What a shame. Still, I'm glad IFP have plans to keep it going. I hope Bond won't still be 13 though. We need a Bond in his early twenties in wartime. Unfortunately I'm starting to lose confidence in authors writing Bond due to the disappointing DMC and CB.
ReplyDeleteHigsons Young Bond series was excellent, Id rather wait until hes available than choosing a new author...
ReplyDeleteAnybody want to bet that Anthony Horowitz is on the short list?
ReplyDeleteCould be. I've never read his Alex Rider books, but the Sherlock Holmes novel he just wrote, The House of Silk, was excellent!
DeleteSeems doubtful, I'd say, given that he already turned it down the first time, when he was approached to write them before Higson and felt that he'd already done that with Alex Rider and didn't want to repeat himself. But he'd probably be great...
Deletewell im hoping for Robert muchamore
DeleteI think that now that Higson is gone, Anthony will step up seeing that the audience demands it
DeleteI'd go for Higson! He has done a swell job. I doubt that anyone else can do it much better!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised they wouldn't just wait for Higson because he is to young Bond what Fleming was to 007 in my opinion. I do understand they have a need to make money. With that said I'd still wait.
ReplyDeleteEveryone sure this wasn't an April fools joke?
ReplyDeletehope it is good as the other books . !?
ReplyDeleteReally hoping for more soon. Almost done with these books. Just started this new to me series and already have to find a new series. This sucks!
ReplyDeleteRIP Roan Power
ReplyDeleteWell I certainly loved how Higson made out the future 007 into a teen character with somewhat unrealistic experiences. After seeing how Anthony Horowitz did this with Alex Rider I can definitely see him doing it for Bond. I will miss the style of Higson's writing as it is a spectacular way to tell a story (especially the exiting Bond ones) but I am overall exited for the return of young Bond because absolutely loved the series.
