ROLE OF HONOUR 1985 Coronet paperback

It's been a while since I've had any news to post, so I thought today I'd share a favorite cover. I'm a sucker for covers that show Bond's car, and the new Bentley Mulsanne Turbo was a big part of John Gardner's fourth Bond adventure, Role of Honour, so this was a great choice of image.


This cover was among a batch of Gardner UK paperback revamps from Coronet released in 1985. If things stay slow, I'll share some more!

    Interesting that they used Roger's silhouette to represent Bond.

    Cars on the covers of the Gardner books makes sense. The driving scenes are probably where the Gardner Bonds most come alive (think the Grand Prix in FSS, the night driving and snow-plow battle in IB, etc). Not all of Bonds passions were necessarily Gardners, hence the sometimes slightly detached feel, but in cars and driving the character and the author seemed to find a mutual interest and it showed.

      That's a very good point. All the driving scenes in LR are also beautifully described.

    I like this one a lot, too! Though I think mine might be different from yours. Is that silhouette die-cut? It kind of looks like it in the picture. Whereas I'm pretty sure my copy isn't.

    Luke Freeman, that's a great point about driving seeming to be a point at which Bond's and Gardner's passions overlap! Well put.

      No, the silhouette is raised along with the gold type and target.
